Foot Locker x NBA, Paris

Window Display

We had to create something quickly that would have a bespoke, permanent, appearance, but that could be rapidly made and installed. Ideas were shared back and forth, and the concept was agreed. We chose powder coated steel frames (cut, welded and powder coated in just a few days), wooden plinths with a parquet finish and white acrylic as our primary mediums. The designs were completed in a record-breaking two days, production took four days – this time even accommodated a number of last-minute client tweaks – and the display was ready for installation.

The working display

The display, and the installation team, travelled to Paris. Our team worked through the night and into the early hours of the morning to fit the display, ensuring that it looked every bit as amazing as the signed-off designs within the store’s window, making sure that it was ready for the big reveal the next morning.

Throughout, the client was kept informed and their approval on any tweaks was sought and given.

This is an example of a project where we not only had to design and develop a display that was of vital importance to our clients in just one week, but we were also required to tweak and adapt that display on the spot to ensure that it fitted a complex footprint and suited the client’s exacting expectations.

It all started when…

On 24 January 2020, the NBA came to Paris – 150,000 fans, a record number for an NBA game in Europe, sought out tickets to see the Charlotte Hornets and Milwaukee Bucks play at the Accor Hotels Arena. Viewers in over 200 countries around the world watched this opening game of the season. Essentially it was a big deal.

For Foot Locker Paris it was an equally big deal as they had arranged a tie-up with the NBA to promote their branded products in the weeks leading up to the game in an exclusive window display at their Champs-Elysées flagship store, just a few miles from the arena.

Bespoke artwork and player merchandise were supplied. The only problem was that the entire window display needed to be designed, produced, delivered and installed within just one week.

Our challenges and execution

The tight deadline on this project eclipsed all the other challenges we have faced. A week from instruction to installation would be beyond the capacity of most. However, as we have our own exceptional design, production and installation teams, they can be mobilised far more rapidly… even in the first week back after the Christmas/New Year holidays, as this required.

Foot Locker sent us the window floor plan and an idea of the NBA assets we should design the display around, and we set to work.
